How about having a wonderful dinner in a classy and romantic restaurant? Well, I did just that at Bagan Bar & Restaurant which is located nearby Gurney Drive. This restaurant is operated by the same management which owns the Thirty Two Mansion, Beach Blanket Babylon and The Eclectic Lounge & Restaurant in Batu Ferringhi.

This restaurant is housed in a colonial bungalow which you would not miss as there is a large signboard in the front promoting its name.

The interior of the restaurant has European elements in their decorations, very charming and cozy with many different lounges and dining areas decorated with furniture and green plants.

As the night sets in, the whole place turns very warm with soft lighting. It is very relaxing dining and enjoying mouth watering dishes in this type of nice ambiance.

They have an extensive menu which I chose the ala carte Rack of Lamb while hubby went for the set meal with his choice of Charbroiled Beef Sirloin which comes with a salad, soup of the day and a choice of dessert.

The night got started with the salad, which was the mixed salad with the interesting and colorful dressing of strawberry vinaigrette. The salad was topped with shaved parmesan cheese.

Next came the soup of the day for the set meal, and it was the onion soup. We found it a bit too oily for our liking, and were surprised to see that it was not accompanied by any bread.

After the soup, the main course was served…! Charbroiled Beef Sirloin with peppercorn sauce. The meat was still pinkish in the middle, indeed very tender and satisfying for my hubby.

I had the macadamia coconut encrusted rack of lamb with prune rosemary lamb juice. The lamb was evenly coated with the crushed macadamia and coconut. The serving was well portioned, three racks which came with serving of vegetable. The gravy was very tasty and the meat was so tender and delicious.

There are several spacious lounges with huge armchairs and sofa where you can relax while enjoying a drink from their extensive wine & drink list. All drinks are freshly prepared from the bar, and during happy hours customers can enjoy the drinks at a discount!

Care for a game of pool?

After the tantalizing meal, both of us enjoyed coffee with plentiful choices of dessert. We had the Tiramisu cake which was well complemented with diced strawberry, apple and orange. The taste was just right, not too over powering.

This is indeed a very nice and classy place to unwind. One could choose to proceed to the lounge to enjoy listening to songs by their residential singer. The singer has a soothing voice and sang mostly jazzy tunes. Alternatively, you could choose to chill out at their bar which is smack right in the center of the restaurant.

The attentive service given by the waiter and waitress certainly makes me wanting a revisit to this outlet. It is directly opposite Phor Tay High School on Jalan Bagan Jermal. Click here for the Map Location. It’s an ideal place for a celebration and entertaining friends.

Oh I went there before too, really not bad, but I still think Mansion 32 has better food. But Bagan has better environment. And the soup DOES look oily! I think I wouldn’t have accepted that kind of soup from such a high class restaurant.

a bit pricey yes, but nothing beats a romantic dinner for two in a private setting.

I’ve been to 32 The mansion, food pretty good there. Never got down to trying Bagan. Love to try especially the Charbroiled Beef Sirloin. Looks delicious!

I have never had dinner there. All the while went there for the beers and music. Drinks are expensive there, so I could say the same for the food. However, I should try the food there one day

ahhh, i went to this place 3 years ago.. brought my dad for his bday dinner and the food is quite dissapointing that nite..ended up having 2nd round at gurney drive.

Well they started as 64 in Midland OneStop. After that they opened 32. After 32 they opened Bagan. The food expensive because of the enviroment and nt because of the chef. Their chefs are just some ordinary people who graduated with a diploma in hospitality or culinary.

Recently the place has become very pub-like at nite with loud speakers blasting away and most of the really nice staff has left. It’s just an opinion but I also feel that some of the staff are really annoying, arrogant and rather predatory. Some examples include standing by and pouring your wine glass to the brim everytime you take a sip so that they can push sales – as you’re aware you do not fill a wine glass to the brim like it’s beer or something. In fact, there was once I even overhead the staff commenting that they should ‘target the customer who like to show off’. Obviously it is a practical business strategy but how would customers like you and me feel?That we are all going there to ‘show off’ therefore we are their victims?I think the place has lost its charm over the years
