Goreng pisang is a filling and tasty snack to have in between meals. There are a few Chinese stalls that I patronized and the Penang Tanjung Bungah Goreng Pisang stall is one of them. Located on the left hand side of the road leading to Batu Feringghi Penang, the stall has been serving its customers for the past forty years.

A non-meat cafe has just opened recently in Chow Thye Road. JenxDan Lifestyle Cafe offers its customers a variety of good and healthy dishes. The cafe name is made up from the initial of the husband and wife, Jayne and Danny. In fact Danny is also the chef who plans the dishes for the menu which is full of Western delicacies and also some Chinese delights. There are some dishes that include eggs and some well prepared ‘meat replacement’ foods.

I had some wonderful delights from their menu, starting with the appetizer, Italian Tomato Bruchestta. This dish comes with a topping of chopped tomato with basil in extra-virgin olive oil. It was full of flavors even though it was not served on a baguette. The healthier whole meal bread was just as good.

During the journey back to Penang we had a Bidor stopover at the well known Pun Chun Restaurant located right in the middle of the town. It has been in existence for many great years and is a popular place for travellers to stop for a meal. The restaurant serves delicious chu char dishes, ark tui mee and wan tan mee. Pun Chun is also famous for their all time favorite Chicken Biscuits (Kai Chai Pang) and Sat Kei Ma (caramalize egg biscuit).

Yong Tau Foo is a famous hawker food in Ipoh and is commonly found in food court and coffee shops around the town. I personally find the Yong Tau Foo in Ipoh tastier, and was delighted when my friend KS introduced me to Nam Fatt Fish Ball Noodle House.

My family visited this air conditioned noodle shop which was located along Jalan Kampar on our recent Ipoh trip. Our meal started off with a plate of Stew Beef Noodles @RM6.80. It was served with plenty of vegetables, indeed different from those serve in Penang.

Cintra Street which starts after the junction of Kimberley Street (leading all the way towards Chulia Street) has numerous hawker food stalls and old style Chinese restaurants. Most of the food stalls  have been operating for a long time.

In fact I did a Cintra Street food crawl review a year ago covering most of the food stalls along this street except the Yee Sang Kai Chok (fish/chicken porridge) stall.

Last week I met up with Mr Akihiko Hijioka, Deputy Managing Director of Sushi Kin Sdn Bhd , member of the Texchem group again at Miraku Japanese Restaurant in G Hotel to try out their newly launched September Autumn promotion of Salmon & Bonito Tuna. Also present was their Chief Executive Chef /Director Susumu Sakamaki.

This time around I get to discover the various preparations of the Bonito Tuna and the Salmon. The Bonito (also known as skipjack tuna) is a seawater fish belonging to the mackerel family with a rich red color and firm texture. We began our dinner with the delightful SP Sashimi Moriawase consisting of an assortment of both fish which was sliced to just the right thickness.

One of the popular and convenient eating places in Gurney Drive is at the Gurney Drive Hawker Center beside the roundabout. This place mostly patronized by tourist and also by the locals offers variety of Penang hawker food. My favorite food at this hawker center is the Yau Yue Ong Choy (cuttlefish convolvulus) which is also known as Ju Hoo Eng Chai in Hokkien and also the blanched cockles.
