A meal with great view!

The Fremantle Fishing Boat Harbour located in Fremantle, Perth is a picturesque place with all the yacht, fishing boats and the long line of seafood restaurants.

One such seafood restaurant is Kailis Fish Market Cafe. It is famously known for the Best Fish ‘N’ Chips in Perth. With a fresh seafood market and indoor and alfresco dining areas, this seafront restaurant is a favorite dining place with the locals and visitors alike.

Eating seafood is more enjoyable at the alfresco table on a sunny day with a cold  breeze. It is a great place to enjoy the view, watch the crowd and the rows of yachts moored at the marina.

Seafood is the main attraction and diners get to choose from a comprehensive selection of delicious seafood straight out of Western Australian waters. There are fleshy mussels, fresh oysters, clams, lobsters, crabs, fish and many more.

Diners get to choose to have it chilled, deep-fried or grilled. We ordered varieties of seafood cooked differently to share as the portions are huge.

Many varieties of seafood

While waiting for the food, we grab a few warm and several bottles of cold beverages. A wireless beeper let us know when the food is ready.

There was abundance of seafood in this huge Chilled Platter. The bright orange-red shell lobster, prawns and crab are delightfully fresh and they are best eaten by hand. Everyone has their hands-on removing the flesh from the shells. Squeezes of lemon juice is all the additional flavor needed to go with the natural flavors of the seafood.

The Oysters Natural is a wonderful treat. The oysters served on a bed of rock salt with lemon wedges, are accompanied by sachets of cracked black pepper.  A slight dash of pepper and soy sauce do not overpower the natural sweetness of the oysters.

The delightful Kailis Seafood Platter arrived at the table with a generous amount of seafood. This platter at AUD46.50 consists of  a bowl of chili mussels together with fresh garden salad, deep fried fish and chips, prawns with calamari.

Certain dishes are accompanied with sauces while others such as the tartar sauce, mayonnaise or Tabasco sauce is considered at separate cost.

The chili mussels were equally fresh and comes with  light seafood sauce. The fish coated with golden brown crispy batter is superbly crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. The tender Calamari also coated with crispy batter is excellent dipped in the seafood sauce.

Besides having the Kailis Seafood platter, we tried many other different dishes. The BBQ Combo @ AUD65.95 consist of squid, scallops, fish and salad.

The scallops are relatively firm and comes with crescent-shaped orange roe. The scallops are perfect on their own, so succulent. The fine and smooth texture of the roe almost melt in the mouth…just awesome!

The BBQ platter is really huge and has a mix of chilled and grilled seafood together with a bowl of salad.

Another great dish at Khailis is the deep fried Fremantle Sardines with chips. The hot battered spicy crumbed fillets was flavorful on its own without any dipping sauce but I was tempted by everyone to have it with lemon juice and tarter sauce. It was fabulous and I ended up having more than a piece!

The Grilled Salmon and The Catch of the Day is no slouch either. Both come with plenty of chips.  Great pieces of fish packed with flavor!

Aside from all the seafood, Kailis also serves gelato ice-cream, sorbets and also coffee to match with freshly baked cakes. We did not have any of the dessert as we were absolutely stuffed!

The place was lively with local fishermen landing with their daily catch. With a 180-degree view of the sea and fresh tasty seafood, Kailis Fish Market Cafe is an eatery that visitors should not miss visiting. The restaurant offers breakfast, lunch and dinner.

I am very fond of this place and have visited it several times during my visits to Perth. It would be great having this type of seafood restaurant springing up in Penang’s plentiful seafront location.
