The newly opened Agua is another addition to the booming food scene at Straits Quay, Penang. This restaurant offers Mediterranean cuisine with flavors from Morocco, Spain, France, Middle East and Italy. I recently visited this outlet as we celebrated the farewell of  beloved friends, Adam & Ryan.

We had our appetite well stimulated with several starters. The Agua Special was a platter of delicious imported sausages and ham packed with herbs and spices. Everyone enjoyed the taste of these finely sliced delicacies which was wonderful with the accompanied olives and cheese. This was indeed a perfect dish to start off with.

Teluk Tempoyak is a quaint fishing village, at the southeastern tip of the Penang. Positioned slightly south of Batu Maung, this Malay village has remained a secluded and unpolluted. It has a stretch of beach that seems to run endlessly. The makeshift and uneven wooden jetties that extend from the shore into the sea, adding charm to this village.

Many Penangites are heading to Kampung Teluk Tempoyak in search of fresh and cheap seafood. Quality and freshness of the seafood here is at the upmost as they serve the catch that comes in every evening. One of the biggest attractions is grilled fish, or more affectionately known as ikan bakar.

For the coming Valentine’s Day, Parkroyal Hotel has prepared their menu with a lavish selection of dishes. The set dinner priced at RM398++ per couple is inclusive of a Valentine Champagne Cocktail, a bottle of wine, a beautiful red rose and heart shaped pralines. There is an amazing array of offerings in the set dinner, starting with the amuse bouche and Cured Salmon Carpaccio. The Crepinette of Quail had the Quail leg stuffed with foie gras, served with potato gnocchi and poultry cream sauce.

It’s been sometime since I last visited Kompleks Makanan Persiaran Gurney (KMPG). It is located along the Gurney Drive seafront promenade. It is small by any standard, and is occupied by a few Mamak hawker stalls. However, despite its size, this place has built a reputation for offering delicious mee goreng and pasembor, known also as the Indian rojak.
