Ristorante Bella Italia is  the place to go when it comes to Italian food in Penang. It has two outlets, with the first one at Bellisa Row in Pulau Tikus, and  the other in Batu Ferringhi, which has a casual and friendly atmosphere. Both the outlets serve a slightly different menu.

The Batu Ferringhi outlet welcomes visitors with its delightful selection of food and its relaxing dining hall looking out into a small garden.

Sigi’s Bar and Grill Beach Bar, an extension of the popular Sigi’s Bar and Grill on the Beach opened recently. Standing right on the beach in Golden Sands Resort along Batu Feringgi, SBG Beach Bar is as authentic as a beach bar can get.

This resort-style bar can accommodate 60 persons and a circular bar counter with a capacity of 10 persons. There is a star-shaped tent sheltering the bar which features bean bags and cushions on the open air, breezy concept.

Opened since last September, the self-service Quay Cafe along Church Street Ghaut in Penang serves vegetarian dishes with a twist. The menu includes a variety of rice dishes, noodles and local favourites.

The brightly lit restaurant has glass windows and exposed walls. The ground floor dining area has rows of tables stretching all the way to the back of the restaurant while another dining section is furnished with high tables and chairs. There are also a few tables laid out on the mezzanine floor.

The Cinnamon at Hotel Penaga has revamped their menu under the helm of its new executive chef Haron Muzaffar Abdul Aziz. The new menu combined interesting and innovative changes to some traditional cuisine. We stopped by early before the lunch crowd to sample several offerings from the lunch and dinner menu.

To bring out its best flavor, chef Haron added new ingredients and spices to the dishes. Appetizer is one dish that starts a meal. There are a few appetizers on the menu; Kim Chee style salad with duck, Thai style salad with peppered squid and the gado-gado.

The Kim Chee salad prepared with Chinese cabbage, carrot, daikon, spring onions and sprinkled with toasted sesame seeds has the flavour of the Korean style pickled cabbage. It is a beautiful combination, however I would prefer it with a more distinctive spicy kim chee flavor.
