Having afternoon tea at Shangri-La’s Rasa Sayang Resort and Spa in Batu Ferringhi, Penang is a real indulgence. I remembered my first noteworthy exposure with Rasa Sayang’s afternoon tea at the Rasa Wing Lounge.
It came with a 3-tier plate rack, with cakes, scones accompanied with cream and jam along with savory treats. Until today, the tradition of afternoon tea is still observed in both the Rasa Wing Lounge and the Spice Market Cafe over at the Garden Wing.
Scones High Tea
Spice Market Cafe has created two new menus, scones high tea with cream cheese and the other menu with blueberry cream cheese. The scones high tea with blueberry cream cheese is priced at RM35++ per person. This set comes along with a pot of English tea, two selections of scones with jam, butter, blueberry cream cheese, clotted cream and fresh strawberries.
On the other hand, the scones high tea with cream cheese priced at RM28.00++ comes with two selections of scones with jam, butter, cream cheese, fresh strawberries and a pot of English tea.
The lovely selections of freshly baked scones include vanilla scone, walnut scone, Parmesan cheese scone and vanilla scone with raisins. The scones are more to the English tradition – light and buttery on the inside.
My personal favourite is the walnut scone. With nice pieces of walnut to almost every bite, the walnut scone blends nicely with the silky smooth clotted cream and strawberry jam.
Also available is the 3-tier tray high tea: English or Malaysian set for RM30++ per person.
The Scones High Tea is served in the Spice Market Cafe terrace, a beautiful place which oversees the manicured gardens and centuries-old rain trees.
Ah…the time-honoured tradition of afternoon tea
The Scones High Tea will be available seven days a week from 2.30pm to 5.30pm, from 15th December 2012 (Saturday) onwards. Do join in the Scones High Tea on this Saturday afternoon as Shangri-La’s Rasa Sayang Resort and Spa will unveil their 40th Anniversary charms at the jewelry show by Amee Philips.
