A group of wine enthusiasts and foodies embarked on an evening, dining on five-courses of Chef Tommes’, cutting-edge cuisine with pairing. It is indeed exciting seeing this food trend in That Little Wine Bar, located on Chow Thye Road, Penang.

The Cutting Edge Night menu offers a selection of traditional European cuisine presented with a twist. While the essence of the dish is preserved, the presentation is totally different. The dishes were paired with a selection of European wines from several wineries.

32 at The Mansion, the town’s well known fine dining restaurant is one of those places where you want to treat yourself to a fine dining experience. Within its premises is Beach Blanket Babylon, a beach side bar and restaurant which is charming in terms of its outdoor setting with view of the sparkly sea.

Menus for both 32 at The Mansion and Beach Blanket Babylon are done by executive chef Mathijs Nanne, with no shortage for choice. We sampled a variety of dishes from the menus.

Beach Blanket Babylon’s menu is exactly what you would expect from beach side bar. It is a bit more casual with plenty of finger food. We started off with the canapé and gougeres which are served on a rectangular tile. The canapé arrived with smoked salmon served over crisp baguette toast, smoked duck spring roll and tuna croquette. This dish is served with the all-time favorite sun-dried tomato aioli.

China House is one of the busiest dining and lifestyle outlets within the Unesco heritage zone of George Town. Occupying three refurbished colonial shop houses with facades facing Beach Street and Victoria Street, China House offers a great dining experience. There are five different dining areas besides a wine store, art spaces and a venue for live shows.

The cafe serves all-day breakfasts, lunches and dinners. Diners can whet their appetite at the casual cafe Kopi C, formal dining room of  BTB Restaurant, an outdoor courtyard, the Canteen & Bar and a private dining room.

At Kopi C, there are many dishes to savour alongside an array of rich cakes and pastries displayed on a long table at its bakery. The place has since received many comments on being the haven for cakes.

Vino Vino Bistro is the latest concept of wine bar to be launched in Penang. Incorporating a whisky bar as well as a coffee bar with a high tech twist, the outlet carries a wide and fine selection of wines in Penang. The cozy interior is lined with wine cabinet stacked with a variety of wines, Japanese sake and shochu.

Its drawing point is the Vino Tech dispensing system, whereby single malt whisky and premier wine are offered to customers by glass at the perfect temperature.
