Tucked away near the entrance of Spice Market Cafe, Shangri-La’s Rasa Sayang Resort and Spa Penang, the Rasa Deli has been attracting diners with its delectable selection of Swiss rolls.

The deli offers seven varieties of sweet and savoury Swiss rolls, including chocolate mango, green tea with red bean, spring onion, dill and thyme, and Nutella hazelnut made with tiger skin sponge cake.

The Jawi House Cafe Gallery, offers an eclectic Jawi Peranakan (Straits Muslim) interior with a comfortable atmosphere to entertain friends and family.

Located on Armenian Street in the heritage zone of George Town, Penang, the cafe is owned by Datuk Dr Wazir Jahan Karim, an anthropologist and culture conservationist.

Although Wazir is a good cook herself, having learned from her mother, she often leaves food preparation at the restaurant to her son and head chef Nurilkarim Razha.

The One located in Bayan Lepas, Penang is lined with massive rows of new shophouses. Most of the outlets are dedicated to food and beverage. Among them is Wheat Connection Bakery. Opened a few months ago, Nazeri Ismail is the proprietor and pastry chef in charge.

Many would be familiar with Nazeri, the former executive pastry chef at Shangri-La’s Rasa Sayang Resort & Spa, Penang. He has created many cakes for the Penang state governor’s birthday celebrations and all are wonderful works of art.

“It has been a long baking journey of over 20 years and it is time I start my own bakery,” said Nazeri.

Rasa Deli at Shangri-La’s Rasa Sayang Resort and Spa, Penang is introducing mouthwatering variety of cheesecakes in the month of July. Cheesecake lovers will rejoice with variations such as Red Velvet Cheese Cake, Marble Cheese Cake, Green Tea Cheese Cake, Butterscotch Mascarpone Cheese Cake, Coconut Pandan Cheese Cake and Signature Cheese Cake.

New executive pastry chef, Dino Wan Teik Boon who has graced many prestigious events with his creations spent the afternoon sharing the cakes with us in the Spice Market Cafe. He serves them into plates, starting with the Signature Cheese Cake. This non-bake cheesecake made with yogurt is light and has a velvety smooth texture. The recipe for this cheesecake had it baked over a crunchy cracker crust.

If you are looking for good pineapple cakes, you cannot pass up visiting Gartien. Located on Lorong Macalister in Penang, Gartien is possibly one of the most well-known pineapple cake makers.

Gartien version of pineapple cake is rolled up in a rectangular pillow of buttery crumbly dough encasing a ball of tangy pineapple filling. Each piece is individually packed in Japanese washi paper to preserve its freshness.
