‘Bordeaux Rendezvous’ 2013  is a wine dinner organized by French wine merchants Barriere Freres in conjunction with their local importer The Wine Shop. Held at E&O Hotel’s brand new Victory Annex, the event attended by wine connoisseurs, hospitality professionals and media started with the Master Class of 2010 vintages, followed by a Wine Dinner.

Happy Chinese New Year 2013, Year of the Water Snake!!!

There are so many life’s great things and one of them is having reunion meal with your loved ones. And this year I could not have asked for better with the flying in of my sons, daughter in-law and my granddaughter.

The start of 2013 had me travelling down to Kuala Lumpur to attend the Artistry of Spices programme at the invitation of The United States Ambassador to Malaysia, Datuk Paul W. Jones, and wife, Catherine Jones.

Many food enthusiasts and friends were there to celebrate the programme held at their official residence in Jalan Langgak Golf.

Le Cordon Bleu Malaysia – Sunway Institute of Culinary Arts has brought culinary education to Malaysia in their school located in Bandar Sunway, Petaling Jaya, Selangor. Representatives from the school and Le Cordon Bleu New Zealand was up in Traders Hotel Penang recently to conduct a seminar.

Attendees at the seminar had an educational afternoon experiencing ‘campus life’. Besides gaining more info on the culinary programmes from both campuses, they also enjoyed a cooking demonstration on the recipe Bonbonnière Au Chocolat – Chocolate Box and Assorted Pralines.

Chin Ho Plaza in Penang Times Square was the site of The Battle of Penang Hawker Masters 2012 competition finale, where 18 shortlisted hawkers compete in dishing out the best Penang hawker dishes. The event organised by Ivory Properties Group Bhd for the second year was packed with a crowd of 500 food lovers who came and watched the participants in action.

The competition comprising six categories, saw three participants from each category showcasing their skills. The six categories were Hokkien mee, curry mee, nasi lemak, char koay teow, pasembur and rojak, prepared with Khalis santan sawit, Carotino red palm oil and minyak Cap Buruh.

My enthusiasm for learning about wine was given a boost when I was invited to the Malaysia Wine Fiesta 2012. The event organized by The Straits Wine Company (of the Billion Frontier Group of Companies) was held at Precinct 10, located at Tanjung Tokong, Penang. More than 400 wine enthusiasts turned up at the event.

“Tickets were sold like hot cakes since the event is being publish. We are glad to organize event like this as it help to bring up a new healthy drinking trend in Penang” Sean Teoh, Billion Frontier Group of Companies Group Vice-President said.

Billion Frontier Group of Companies owns a number of up-market restaurants and bistros including Bed, Sixty9ine Mansion by The Sea, Mois, Nueve, Sushi Zento and Red Karaoke.

The Norway and Norwegian Consumer Goods Exhibition held at Gurney Plaza, Penang attracted a large crowd. Organised by the Royal Norwegian Embassy in Kuala Lumpur, the exhibition held from November 1, 2012 showcased the best range of products originate from Norway and Norwegian. The exhibition will go on until November 4, 2012.

September 23, 2012 marked the soft opening of Tao Authentic Asian Cuisine in Penang Times Square. This is the third outlet to serve customers in Penang besides its popular outlets in E-gate and Auto City.

A press conference was held on the day of its opening with a short speech from Mr Alex Oung, sharing the insight of the restaurant which specializes in all-u-can-eat buffet, with Japanese, Korean, Chinese, Taiwan and Thai cuisine.
