Shangri-La’s Rasa Sayang Resort & Spa and Golden Sands Resort, Penang Launched “Rooted In Nature” Campaign

This April, Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts worldwide launched the “Rooted in Nature,” Campaign. The campaign sees the Shangri-La group hosting a month long celebration of the group’s most exceptional food purveyors.

To celebrate the event, Shangri-La’s Rasa Sayang Resort & Spa and Golden Sands Resort, Penang will highlight sustainable sources of seafood and free-range chicken to diners with special menus throughout the month April 2015.

At Shangri-La’s Rasa Sayang Resort & Spa, guests are invited to savor the special dishes at Feringgi Grill and Spice Market Cafe. Over at Golden Sands Resort, Penang, the menu is available for diners at Garden Cafe and Sigi’s Bar and Grill.

Eastern & Oriental Hotel, Penang, Malaysia celebrating International Gout De France/Good France

On 19th March 2015, 150 countries around the world will be celebrating French gastronomy in conjunction with the Gout De France/Good France.

Inspired by Auguste Escoffier’s “Dîners d’Épicure” (Epicurean Dinners), the “French-style” menu with a traditional French aperitif, a cold starter, a hot starter, fish or shellfish, meat or poultry, a selection of French cheeses, and a chocolate dessert is served to many diners worldwide in one day.

A list of restaurants from different categories will be participating in this unique global event, with several in Malaysia, including 1885 at Eastern & Oriental Hotel, Penang. “The main objective of the event is to celebrate and honor the merits of French cuisine,” says hotel manager Mr Harold Rainfroy.

The Wine Daddy’s ‘wine journey’ of discovering wines took place recently in Vistana Hotel Penang. I was invited to join in the session, comprising 45 minutes of theory, followed by two hours of tutored tasting.

Hosted by Prakash Ragavan, the ‘Wine Daddy’, the event offers a lot to know about wines. The wine enthusiast with a diploma in wine shared his knowledge and guided everyone through the assortment Old World and New World wines.

It begin with the NV Renaixenca Cava Brut, a sparkling wine from Spain and on to the whites – Los Cardos Sauvignon Blanc 2013 from Argentina and Heroes Sauvignon Blanc 2012 from Chile.

The deli offers seven varieties of sweet and savoury Swiss rolls, including chocolate mango, green tea with red bean, spring onion, dill and thyme, and Nutella hazelnut made with tiger skin sponge cake.

The Asia Food Festival 2014 (AFF) is set to kick off with a host of activities for five days from Oct 22 at the Subterranean Penang International Convention & Exhibition Centre (SPICE).

The festival will feature a Fine Arts of Tea and Coffee Appreciation seminar, Asian Barista and Latte Art competition, Malaysian Association of Hotels Waiters’ Race and Bed Making competition as well as Wine and Spirits seminars.

Cathay Pacific Airways celebrated the opening of its newly refurbished First & Business Class Lounge at the Penang International Airport. The lounge which is conveniently located on level 3 has a relaxed and spacious atmosphere.

The auspicious launch event was graced by Yang Berhormat Danny Law, Penang State Exco for Tourism Development and Culture, Mr. Wilson Yam, Cathay Pacific Airway’s South East Asia Regional General Manager, and Mr. Arif Jaafar, Airport Manager, Malaysia Airports Berhad.

As a token of appreciation to all the corporate clients, G Hotel hosted the biggest Corporate Thank You Party in-style at the hotel’s grand ballroom on Friday, 6 December 2013.

G Hotel presented an extravagant evening with the theme of “White Sensation” with great visual and musical performance by various artists, and lots of prizes, food and wine. The white themed corporate party had more than 300 corporate clients attired in white.

Coffee drinking has taken over Penang, with the opening of many new places. One such outlet is Kaffa Espresso Bar, a Kuala Lumpur based vintage themed coffee bar, with its second outlet officially launched in Green Hall.

Invited guests were served with their favorite choice of coffee: mocha, chocolate, espresso and piccolo latte, with some choosing the salted caramel macchiato, which is a beautiful sight and delightful to sip on.

The Japan Sweets Fair event held in Isetan KLCC in Kuala Lumpur is a sweet extravaganza, featuring lots of Japanese sweets. I had the opportunity to attend the fair which runs in the concourse floor from 18th October to 30th October 2013.

The event is capped off with the special appearance of Iron Chef Hiroyuki Sakai who specializes in French cuisine. Another special guests is none other than patissiers Chef Toshihiko Yoroizuka, who has made headlines for designing hats, bags, shoes and dresses that are not only good to look at but also good enough to eat.
