Judging cooking competition and experiencing the food is a great joy. I have judged in many competitions and recently was the first-time-ever judging a competition on the high sea.

Organised by Genting Hong Kong to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the founding of Star Cruises, the Star Cruises Nasi Kandar Cooking Competition 2013 was held on board the SuperStar Libra.

Chin Ho Plaza in Penang Times Square was the site of The Battle of Penang Hawker Masters 2012 competition finale, where 18 shortlisted hawkers compete in dishing out the best Penang hawker dishes. The event organised by Ivory Properties Group Bhd for the second year was packed with a crowd of 500 food lovers who came and watched the participants in action.

The competition comprising six categories, saw three participants from each category showcasing their skills. The six categories were Hokkien mee, curry mee, nasi lemak, char koay teow, pasembur and rojak, prepared with Khalis santan sawit, Carotino red palm oil and minyak Cap Buruh.

It was a great opportunity appointed by MediaCorp TV Singapore as one of the judges in their New Chinese Variety Program – Chef Apprentice 名厨实习生. The program, hosted by popular TV host – Kym Ng, was filmed at the Culinary Arts Centre, located in Harbor Trade Centre, Penang.

The 10-episode program created a chance for apprentice Andrew Chua Kia Hong and apprentice Eugene Tan Chun Hao. Both received up close personal coaching and guidance from Executive Chef Sunny Sia of Grand Park City Hall Hotel Singapore and Executive Chef Eric Teo of Mandarin Oriental Hotel Singapore.

Just wanted to share with everyone the fun filled weekend I spent at the Region 1 Leos Club “Wok for Love” cooking competition. The event took place in Komtar Walk, being sponsored by Digi and Pacific Departmental Store. This competition was open to Leo Club members aged from twelve to thirty from school based and open based Leo Club members.
