Kuala Sepetang (Port Weld) is a fishing village near Taiping and is famous for its fresh seafood and mee banjir udang. It is around twenty kilometers from Taiping town and roughly twenty-five minutes traveling time. We were in Taiping for the cheng beng and we took the opportunity to try out the seafood after reading about it in the Kwong Wah Yit Poh. The quiet town of Kuala Sepetang was buzzing with excitement due to the coming Bukit Gantang by-election. The roads were packed with vehicles parking on the roadside which was lined and decorated with the flags and banners of all parties. FRU and police trucks were everywhere as well. What a timing indeed!
After maneuvering through the jam, we finally reached the Restaurant Tepi Sungai. Quite literally, as the restaurant is RIGHT beside the river! It is on the first floor of the building. The ground floor is the docking area for the fishing boats.

Beautiful scenery of the river would be heaven for photographers

Restaurant Khanna is a newly opened restaurant in Penang which serves North & South Indian Cuisines. This modern and contemporary Indian restaurant is a place where customers can enjoy tasty Indian cuisines at affordable prices in a cozy indoor environment or in the open air sitting area. After much delay and location change, Canton-i finally opened their doors at the ground floor of Queensbay Mall, Penang. This brand; which is associated with the Dragon-i line of restaurants, offers varieties of authentic Hong Kong cuisines. Upon stepping into this restaurant, the ambiance and atmosphere radiating from its surrounding was completely different of Dragon-i. Well, the open kitchen concept is still adopted, but the interior design; laced in pink and white colour themes, was a pleasant change. As I browsed through, I noticed the walls were mounted with huge mirrors, giving the place a spacious feeling.

I’ve always made it a point to visit Kuala Lumpur several times a year, as the cuisines there are a nice change from what we get in Penang. Their style is slightly different, the taste and ways of cooking are unique as well. We made our way down to Sek Yuen Chinese Restaurant just down Jalan Pudu, for one of our Chinese New Year meals. We started off our meal with the traditional Yee Sang mixing, and indeed it was different from Penang.

To savour tasty Taiwanese food in Penang, the place to be is Kocha Taiwanese Delight in 229, Jalan Burma Road. This restaurant is walking distance from the famed biscuit shop, Him Heang. It is decorated with simple furniture, mainly rattan chairs and lots of knick knack plus several different sizes aquariums.
As for the food, there is a wide selection of noodles, rice and snacks in their menu to choose from. We ordered the sliced cold Drunken Chicken, Kimchi pork in hot plate, salted vegetables (kiam chye) and also the Dumplings in Beef Soup. There were five big dumplings in the bowl of slightly spicy soup. Being beef soup lovers, we give this dish a big thumbs-up.

The dishes that we had goes well with the rice but take note that their bowl of rice cost RM1.20..(bit pricey for plain white rice). Overall the food is very tasty and unique in its own way. Business starts from 12.00 noon right till 10.30pm. For reservations, do call 04 2275048.
Finding a car park space can be a bit difficult during peak hours as there are only a few parking lots right in front of the restaurant.
Red Rock Hotel (previously it was Agora Hotel) on Macalister Road recently open its door to the public. We decided to try the food in their “Tian-Tian Restaurant” – Everyday Supreme Restaurant which is located on the 1st floor.

The ambience’s inside the restaurant is clean and spacious. As this is our first visit, we ordered a few simple and basic dishes.

Overall the dishes are very well flavoured and delicious. The price is reasonable and it is worth visiting again.
