Ever tasted the delicacy Stinky Tofu (Chao Tofu) from Taiwan?

It was an amazing steamboat dinner we had on the weekend with some friends at Tang Steamboat & BBQ Restaurant in Rangoon Road, Penang. It is a different kind of steamboat whether when it comes to choices of food and soup.

Customers can choose between the buffet and the ala carte meal. We took the ‘All You Can Eat Buffet’ at RM22 nett per person which includes a wide range of seafood, meat and side dishes for the steamboat and skewered sticks for the BBQ. Besides that, we got the chance tasting the famous Taiwanese specialty Chao Tofu.

We had some nourishing porridge for dinner last night at Sin Geylang. The shop on Macalister Road (opposite Red Rock Hotel) specializes in claypot porridge, serve with dishes for lunch and dinner. The texture of the porridge was smooth, quite thick and topped with chopped spring onions with a dash of oil.

There are many chu char stall in Bukit Mertajam and one such shop that serves simple and robust Teochew food is Yoong Kee Eating Shop. This shop among one of the oldest Teochew restaurant around town is located in Jalan Pasar (Market Street) and has been operating for over 60 years.

If you are looking for varieties of Nasi Lemak, Nyonya cuisines and home cooked food, you might want to drop by Ivy’s Kitchen located on Chow Thye Road, Penang.  This pork free restaurant with very basic deco is just beside Isaribi Japanese Restaurant and Jemputree.

A group of Penang Food Bloggers gathered there recently for a food tasting session.

Penang hawker food never ceases to amaze me, up to this very day. After trying so many types of bak moey (pork porridge), I stumbled upon this stall in Perak Lane that is managed by an old man with the help from his son.
