Penang Plaza in Burma Road has been given a new lease of life with the opening of the Hei Yeong Seng Chinese Restaurant. Also known as Noble Season Chinese Restaurant, it is a subsidiary of the Chinese Recreation Club Restaurant. Its cream-coloured table cloths and simple decor give it a bright and cheery ambience. There is an aquarium at one side of the restaurant that is filled with thriving fish of all kinds. There is also a mini-stage at the rear to cater for mass banquets and company functions.

We finally tracked down the hidden gem, Khunthai Restaurant located at nearby Jalan Raja Uda, Butterworth. This is my first visit for dinner at this Thai restaurant that serves authentic Thai food. There are indoor and also outdoor sitting areas, al fresco style.

Undecided on what to order, I surveyed the few tables around, and finally opted for the Kerabu Khuntai RM10 packed with vegetables, dried shrimps, nuts and fruits with the sour, spicy and sweet taste. It was a great starter and whetted our appetite nicely!

We had some nourishing porridge for dinner last night at Sin Geylang. The shop on Macalister Road (opposite Red Rock Hotel) specializes in claypot porridge, serve with dishes for lunch and dinner. The texture of the porridge was smooth, quite thick and topped with chopped spring onions with a dash of oil.

Sin Kheng Aun Restaurant situated in Chulia Lane is one of the prominent Hainanese restaurants in Penang. This restaurant is very popular with the locals and tourists for its Hainanese food and also local dishes. Specialist of this restaurant includes the Curry Gulai Tumis, Kerabu Prawns, Hainanese Pork/Chicken Chop and many other selections of dishes.

My family and I have tried most of the dishes here as we have patronized this restaurant countless of time over the years. Their unique Haninese Pork Chop is a favorite and comes deep fried with an egg coating and paired with onions, peas and quarters of fried potatoes. The meat has a crispy exterior and went well with the slightly thick delicious gravy.
