A visit to Sunshine Bay for dinner had the few of us indulging in several types of seafood dishes. This eatery, located in Kedai Kopi Sin Eng Huat at Tanjung Bungah is just right beside the traffic light junction, directly opposite  the famous Penang Tanjung Bunga Goreng Pisang stall. The place looks quite old with the fluorescent lightnings going on and off during our visit on a rainy day. Anyway, the food was awesome!

I am sharing the absolutely scrumptious noodle dishes first. The Kappa Mee Suah and the Stir Fried Noodles with Crab are two lovely choices that we started with. Meesuah was smooth on the tongue and extremely flavorful with the egg and fresh kappa.

On the other hand, the yellow noodles are stir fried with crab, robust with the crustacean juices. The noodles are best left absorbing the gravy as it tends to get slightly moist and more flavorful. I could not resist a second helping of the noodles! The crab flesh was juicy, and with the gravy coating it, the dish was heavenly!

Jawa Mutton Satay @Chowrasta Market Penang

Posted by: CK Lam    in Georgetown, Hawker, Malay, Penang, Satay

Satay, originally a Malay cuisine, has been fusioned and adapted by many races, as the idea of meat on the stick has been appealing since the early days. In Malaysia, the more popular type of skewered meat would be the chicken and beef. We came across this satay stall specializing in Satay Kambing (mutton satay) during my revisit for the cooling glass of Ais Tingkap.

Ipoh Hawker Food – Yong Tau Foo

Posted by: CK Lam    in Hawker, Ipoh, Noodles, Yong Tau Foo

The best deep-fried yong tau foo that we had eaten is in Ipoh. The stall which looks a bit shabby and rundown is one of the many stalls cluttering under a big tree “tai shue keok” and located nearby Tuck Kee Restaurant in Jalan King, off Pasir Pinji.

It serves many varieties of fried yong tau foo like stuffed chili, brinjal, bitter gourd, fish ball, fish cakes and crispy foo chok. The fish paste is very fresh and has a springy texture.

The stall also sell different types of noodles …. curry, assam laksa and even dried ones. The curry is very lemak and the assam laksa although different from those in Penang is just as tasty.

Crispy deep fried prawn fritters with vegetables are fried on the spot.

Recommended drink… Hong Tau Ping (Ice Red Bean Shake). Unusual and very tasty – (give it an “A1”). The texture of the shake was smooth, creamy and the sweetness was just right. We were wondering how much blending is needed to make the red bean drink so creamy when this type of bean is know to be powderish when made into paste. It was so irresistible that my son had two glasses!!!

We found out a little too late that they have Loke Tau Ping (Ice Green Bean Shake) too. Already too full to have another glass, we plan to have it on our next visit to this place.

*Prices of food is generally cheaper and bigger in size than those sold in Penang*
