The Cinnamon at Hotel Penaga has revamped their menu under the helm of its new executive chef Haron Muzaffar Abdul Aziz. The new menu combined interesting and innovative changes to some traditional cuisine. We stopped by early before the lunch crowd to sample several offerings from the lunch and dinner menu.

To bring out its best flavor, chef Haron added new ingredients and spices to the dishes. Appetizer is one dish that starts a meal. There are a few appetizers on the menu; Kim Chee style salad with duck, Thai style salad with peppered squid and the gado-gado.

The Kim Chee salad prepared with Chinese cabbage, carrot, daikon, spring onions and sprinkled with toasted sesame seeds has the flavour of the Korean style pickled cabbage. It is a beautiful combination, however I would prefer it with a more distinctive spicy kim chee flavor.

Loh Bak, with its multitude of choices, is a favorite snack any time of the day. Most of the Loh Bak stalls have more or less the usual items of prawn fritters, pork roll, deep-fried bean curd, century egg, fish fillet and deep fried spring roll.

Whenever I’m in the area of Bayan Baru, I frequently visit the Loh Bak stall at BB Food Court. The stall has a few delicious twist in addition to the usual items!

Over the weekend together with my blogger friends and photographers, we went around Air Itam to sample-fest some hawker food. We made our way to Kedai Kopi Wah Meng. The coffee shop located across the Sisters Curry Mee is a stone throw away from the Air Itam morning wet market, which itself is full of interesting local flavor.

Tho Yuen Chicken Rice Restaurant is an old Cantonese restaurant located in a two storey building at Campbell Street right next the popular sundry shop, Kwong Tuck. Business has been going around for many decades now and the place is still as popular.

This restaurant serves dim sum for breakfast and varieties of noodles, porridge and Chicken Rice during lunch hour. The interior of the restaurant was recently given a new paint job for a cleaner and brighter outlook! I was there during lunch break and the place was filled with customers with some having to settle for the tables set up in the pavement.

*** Update:  Young Heart has closed

Recently, I was invited by Ann Kee of Young Heart Restaurant at Pulau Tikus to a food testing session as they are launching their Chinese New Year Special Dishes. Together with a group of food bloggers, we visited this restaurant located on Cantonment Road. I truly enjoyed the food of my last visit to this restaurant with my family.

This restaurant with its motto; The Fragrance of the Refreshment comes from the Heart has been around since 2005, emphasizes on simple dishes that do not reliant much on extra artificial flavoring.
