Simply Nutritious is an excellent place for a simple wholesome spaghetti meal! Since starting this business one half years ago, Chef Foo Jan has been serving unique pasta dishes to Penangites. Initially a stall in Burmah Road/Jones Road junction, Simply Nutritious has since become a café in Lebuh Melaka!

Customers now dine in a more conducive environment with comfortable seats and air-conditioning. This is probably the only place in Penang that concentrates on the pasta and serves the accompanying meat as a complement.

There are only a couple of places in Penang where you can find tasty handmade Pan Mee (mee hoon kuih). I managed to scour affordable and tasty pan mee at I Mum Mum Restaurant which is located in the midst of the PDC flats in Pengkalan Weld, near the starting point of the Jelutong Expressway.

A visit to Sunshine Bay for dinner had the few of us indulging in several types of seafood dishes. This eatery, located in Kedai Kopi Sin Eng Huat at Tanjung Bungah is just right beside the traffic light junction, directly opposite  the famous Penang Tanjung Bunga Goreng Pisang stall. The place looks quite old with the fluorescent lightnings going on and off during our visit on a rainy day. Anyway, the food was awesome!

I am sharing the absolutely scrumptious noodle dishes first. The Kappa Mee Suah and the Stir Fried Noodles with Crab are two lovely choices that we started with. Meesuah was smooth on the tongue and extremely flavorful with the egg and fresh kappa.

On the other hand, the yellow noodles are stir fried with crab, robust with the crustacean juices. The noodles are best left absorbing the gravy as it tends to get slightly moist and more flavorful. I could not resist a second helping of the noodles! The crab flesh was juicy, and with the gravy coating it, the dish was heavenly!

What a Great Time! I had a Taste of Martin Yan’s Cooking!

Chef Martin Yan was in Malaysia recently upon his appointment as the brand ambassador for GE Monogram. I had a great food adventure watching the international celebrity chef in a live cooking demonstration which was held in collaboration with General Electric and Kollektion Distribution Sdn Bhd at Starhill Kuala Lumpur.

The event was presented exclusively for the YTL Platinum Plus members and the media.

Koay Teow Th’ng, also commonly known as KTT is a popular hawker food for Penangites besides the overwhelmingly famous Char Koay Teow, Assam Laksa and Hokkien Mee. Lately I have been patronizing the Duck Meat Koay Teow Th’ng at Lum Lai located in Cecil Street Market Hawker Center, located just beside the bustling Cecil Street Market. This street is also known as Chit Tiau Lor to Penangites which represent the 7th Road in that precinct.

Chicken rice can be found in most hawker stalls and food courts in Penang as the chicken rice is a popular and favorite food for many of us. There is one exceptional stall that sells Hainan Chicken Rice – Thai style located in a corner coffee shop along Penang Road. It is directly opposite KOMTAR Tower and a few shops away from Kek Seng which is famous for its durian ice cream and ice kacang.

Penang Food – Klang Bak Kut Teh

Posted by: CK Lam    in Bah Kut Teh, George Town, Hawker, Penang

Looking back at the post, it seems like it has been a while since I blogged about Bak Kut Teh in Penang. I was recommended to try out a Bak Kut Teh stall in the folds of Jalan Terengganu recently. It was indeed a different style from the Penang local version. It is the Klang Bak Kut Teh!

Penang has a number of Korean BBQ restaurants and lately we saw the arrival of Daorae Korean BBQ Restaurant in our shores. The outlet opened in the middle of May, less than a month ago occupies two shoplots in Penang Bayan Point. Daorae operates by the motto ‘the customers is always right’, thus their main objective is to provide good services to their customers. We had a hearty meal there recently.

Hubby and I came across this old eatery on Magazine Road which has been around for 60 over years. This place which serves porridge is operated by the elderly Mr Tan with the help of his son. This eatery has an amazing seating arrangement, with tiny wooden stools (bangku) on top of long benches.

Amazingly, this place is one of the handfuls of stalls left in Penang that does not even have a signboard!

Penang hawker food never ceases to amaze me, up to this very day. After trying so many types of bak moey (pork porridge), I stumbled upon this stall in Perak Lane that is managed by an old man with the help from his son.
