Bayview Hotel Georgetown’s Revolving Restaurant presents a Thai dinner buffet to go with its 360-degree, bird’s eye view of Penang island. Laden with appetisers, hot dishes and desserts, the buffet table offers an exciting blend of flavours.

Diners can choose from the many varieties of refreshing salads and cold dishes. On display are grilled beef salad, green papaya salad, Thai clam salad with young mango, Thai glass noodle salad, Thai pomelo salad and leaf -wrapped savoury morsels (miang kham). The last is a riot of fragrances and textures from the combination of daun kaduk, onions, chilies, roasted peanuts and lime.

For those with cravings for Texas grill dishes, do drop in to Swez Brasserie, located in Eastin Hotel, Penang. The brasserie is having its Texas Grill Promotion for the whole month of June 2012.

The young newly appointed junior sous chef, Kelvin Cheong whips up a selection of grill dishes cooked with a pleasant flavor of of herbs and spices). I had a preview taste of some of the dishes. The meal begins with the serving of warm Texas wild potato soup made with USA imported potatoes and herbs. The hearty soup with a delectable creaminess was simply satisfying.

In my recent post on Isaribi Tei Japanese Restaurant, I received plenty of comments and feedbacks from my readers on other Japanese food and restaurants too. One of them is the Kirishima Japanese Restaurant, situated in the lobby level of Cititel Hotel, Penang. We visited this restaurant which is known through word of mouth as one of the best Japanese restaurant in town!

We were guided to our seat in the main dining hall. Browsing through their huge and colorful menu, we noticed that Kirishima does offer a wide variety of Japanese dishes. We placed our orders and while waiting for the food, we were given a cold towel to freshen up.

We had this King Prawn Roll @RM24 – Deep fried king prawn rolled with salmon and avocado. Indeed, this dish was skillfully prepared and presented as well! This combination of fruit, fish roe and seafood was very tasty.

***The restaurant has since closed down.

This is the first time, I step inside Bistro @Hardwicke. This restaurant is located on the ground floor of Hardwicke House, the well maintained bungalow sitting in the corner of Jalan Pangkor and Jalan Sultan Ahmad Shah, Penang. I still remember visiting this place years ago with KS when it was still Mr Ho’s Fine Foods, in which I tasted roast pork with apple sauce for the first time.

This Bistro is made up of two sections, the bar and the restaurant. The restaurant has a cozy ambiance and elegant decorations with a beautiful chandelier hanging down the dining hall.

Besides ala carte, they do have on-going promotions and lunch set. I ordered a mixed green salad and the promotional Spaghetti Beef Bolognaise. The plate of spaghetti cost RM8.80 and surprisingly comes with generous amount of minced beef in rich tomato sauce, topped with herbs (more beef than spaghetti). It was served with a slice of toasted garlic bread.

If there was ever a time when you had Japanese food to the point you leave the shop beaming from ear to ear, tonight had to be it. The venue? Isaribi Tei Japanese Restaurant which serves authentic Japanese Cuisine of course! This Penang based Japanese Restaurant is located at Burmah Square on Jalan Chow Thye, on the row of shoplots nearby Him Heang.

The night was pouring heavily, and with our stomachs growling, this seems to be the perfect place. The garden which leads to the restaurant was beautifully decorated, and even though it was dark, it gave the place a very cozy feeling.

Upon entering the place, we were greeted by their friendly waiters and shown to our table. Looking around, we can see that the spacious restaurant is decorated with a tapestry of cultures. Wooden panels decorated the walls, while memorabilia of all sorts were donning the sides. We don’t feel that we are actually in an old pre-war shoplot.
