A food trip over to Ipoh, Perak had us visiting Mun Choong Restaurant. This restaurant commonly known as Pusing Public Restaurant is a favorite of both tourists and locals.

This restaurant situated in Pasir Puteh offers variety of delicacies and one personal favorite is the udang galah (Har Lok in Cantonese). These freshwater prawns are cooked in many forms.

Chin Ho Plaza in Penang Times Square was the site of The Battle of Penang Hawker Masters 2012 competition finale, where 18 shortlisted hawkers compete in dishing out the best Penang hawker dishes. The event organised by Ivory Properties Group Bhd for the second year was packed with a crowd of 500 food lovers who came and watched the participants in action.

The competition comprising six categories, saw three participants from each category showcasing their skills. The six categories were Hokkien mee, curry mee, nasi lemak, char koay teow, pasembur and rojak, prepared with Khalis santan sawit, Carotino red palm oil and minyak Cap Buruh.

Located at Cintra Street in downtown Penang is De Tai Tong Cafe. This corner coffeeshop is a favorite food venue for it offers an extensive variety of dim sum and dozens of rice and noodle dishes.

Hing Kee Restaurant is a traditional Chinese coffee shop located on the left hand side of China Street in Penang. For those who are not familiar with this part of George Town, China Street is directly opposite the Goddess of Mercy Temple (Kuan Yin Teng).

This restaurant serves mainly chu char home-cooked style dishes and it is also open on Sundays.

For the first dish we chose to have the Kui Kau Curry Tumis. The fresh pieces of fish are cooked in the appetizing tamarind gravy with lots of lady fingers and tomatoes. The  taste is less sourish and not as oily compared to those that we had at Sin Kheng Aun Restaurant.

The day started with a “yum cha” session at the old eatery, Aik Hoe Restaurant located in Carnavon Street Penang.  This restaurant which occupied two shop houses still managed to retain its old nostalgic charm after fifty over years.

The fixtures of old ceiling fans with flooring of small squares of blue and white tiles still remain there after all these years, making this place a real heritage in its own way.

Nothing much have changed and the restaurant still has the very ‘Chinese old school look’, even still with its signature metal chairs. The shop’s name has been embedded into the metal chair itself; a real rare find nowadays.
