Penang Lor Mee comes with braised meat ingredients with robustly savory starchy gravy flavored with five-spice powder and egg white. The different spices in the flavorful and pungent gravy is what that enticed the taste of the Lor Mee. Hubby and I came across a Lor Mee stall at Lean Thye Coffee Shop which occupied the corner shop house in Ah Quee Street.

Goreng pisang is a filling and tasty snack to have in between meals. There are a few Chinese stalls that I patronized and the Penang Tanjung Bungah Goreng Pisang stall is one of them. Located on the left hand side of the road leading to Batu Feringghi Penang, the stall has been serving its customers for the past forty years.

***The restaurant has since closed down.

How about having a wonderful dinner in a classy and romantic restaurant? Well, I did just that at Bagan Bar & Restaurant which is located nearby Gurney Drive. This restaurant is operated by the same management which owns the Thirty Two Mansion, Beach Blanket Babylon and The Eclectic Lounge & Restaurant in Batu Ferringhi.

Penang Food – Klang Bak Kut Teh

Posted by: CK Lam    in Bah Kut Teh, George Town, Hawker, Penang

Looking back at the post, it seems like it has been a while since I blogged about Bak Kut Teh in Penang. I was recommended to try out a Bak Kut Teh stall in the folds of Jalan Terengganu recently. It was indeed a different style from the Penang local version. It is the Klang Bak Kut Teh!

Hubby and I came across this old eatery on Magazine Road which has been around for 60 over years. This place which serves porridge is operated by the elderly Mr Tan with the help of his son. This eatery has an amazing seating arrangement, with tiny wooden stools (bangku) on top of long benches.

Amazingly, this place is one of the handfuls of stalls left in Penang that does not even have a signboard!

As usual, we were browsing and hunting through for a nice dinner, and somehow Hubby had a great idea of having some Lok Lok! Commonly on the island, we usually go to Padang Brown or the Pulau Tikus Market at night, however this time; hubby wants to try out the Lok Lok at Butterworth’s Chai Leng Park, Wai Sek Kai.

We made a trip over there and we chose New Corner Lok Lok as it is the first visible stall when you enter into this one way street. In the evening, this street is turned into a hawker food haven with stalls lining up from the beginning right till the end.

Penang Teochew Cendol or commonly known as Ang Tau Cendol is a highly popular dessert. This Penang hawker food is an all-time favorite among the locals and the tourist. It can be found in a stall located on Lebuh Keng Kwee, off Penang Road.

I’ve always made it a point to visit Kuala Lumpur several times a year, as the cuisines are different from what we get in Penang. The  taste and ways of cooking are unique as well. We made our way down to Sek Yuen Chinese Restaurant just down Jalan Pudu during Chinese New Year. We started off with the traditional Yee Sang, and indeed it is different from those served in Penang.
