Traveling is also part of discovering new eating places. This second part of my Kuala Lumpur food article continues with many more interesting dining places.

It is an absolutely great meaty meal at El Cerdo located on Changkat Bukit Bintang. Together with some friends, we sampled El Cerdo’s notable dish of suckling pig and other dishes like Iberico ribs, sausage platter and seafood paella.

The half size piglet is priced at RM188. The waiter gestured us to cut the piglet with a plate. Not only is it a memorable experience for us but the food also delighted our taste buds. The suckling piglet done with amazingly crispy skin and soft meat with melting fat had everyone asking for seconds.

Among the choices of desserts, we had the raspberry sherbet and the rum and raisin ice cream. The latter is far better of the two.

Our trips to Kuala Lumpur had us visiting many places, savoring the city’s food and staying at Aloft Kuala Lumpur Sentral. Recommended by friends Alison and Narelle, the hotel with a casual, hip vibe offers solid bed to help us sleep through the nights.

The hotel is a convenient place of accommodation, especially for those who do not have transport as it is located opposite the KL Sentral transportation hub.

The Japan Sweets Fair event held in Isetan KLCC in Kuala Lumpur is a sweet extravaganza, featuring lots of Japanese sweets. I had the opportunity to attend the fair which runs in the concourse floor from 18th October to 30th October 2013.

The event is capped off with the special appearance of Iron Chef Hiroyuki Sakai who specializes in French cuisine. Another special guests is none other than patissiers Chef Toshihiko Yoroizuka, who has made headlines for designing hats, bags, shoes and dresses that are not only good to look at but also good enough to eat.

Yut Kee Restaurant, located in Jalan Dang Wangi Kuala Lumpur, is an old school Hainanese restaurant that has been operating since 1928. The place offering traditional kopitiam fare and variety of Hainanese food is a hit with locals and foreigners alike.

Gem Restaurant with a great corner location of Bishop Street and King Street in Penang is a newly opened restaurant that offers North and South Indian cuisines. This three month old restaurant with modern fusion of contemporary and traditional decor serves a diverse array of food, from heavenly spicy and fiery dishes to creamy delights.

Besides Penang, they do have seven restaurants in India, two in Kuala Lumpur and one in Selangor.

Growing up in the heart of Kuala Lumpur, one place that I have frequented over the years is the Lai Foong Beef Noodle stall, located nearby Petaling Street. Many years has since passed, however when I make the trip back I will indulge in a bowl of the beef noodle!

Filled with ingredients of lean beef, tripe and beef balls, beef tendon, and beef intestine; the taste and quality has remained the same as Thomas Tan strives to maintain the beef noodle legacy of his late grandfather based on an authentic 80-year-old Hainanese recipe.

What a Great Time! I had a Taste of Martin Yan’s Cooking!

Chef Martin Yan was in Malaysia recently upon his appointment as the brand ambassador for GE Monogram. I had a great food adventure watching the international celebrity chef in a live cooking demonstration which was held in collaboration with General Electric and Kollektion Distribution Sdn Bhd at Starhill Kuala Lumpur.

The event was presented exclusively for the YTL Platinum Plus members and the media.

My weekend was spent in Kuala Lumpur attending Carven Ong’s 18th Anniversary & Graduation Gala held in Prince Hotel & Residence Kuala Lumpur. The event featured a magnificent fashion show featuring his Spring/Summer 2010 collection and also the Graduation Show for his next generation of young designers. Many guests attended this event with many from the fashion industry, fashion lovers, ambassadors and celebrities.

The highlight of the event was Carven Ong’s Spring/Summer 2010 collection with the young models showcasing their respective style and poise wearing gowns with sexy cut out details that were just amazingly seductive and elegant.

On my recent trip to Kuala Lumpur, I made my maiden visit to the bakery-cum-cafe Patisserie RUI Artisanal in Mont’ Kiara Meridin. This nice cozy place only house a couple of tables, but their array of cakes, pastries, chocolates and snacks are simply mouth-watering.

Emphasizing on the petite and beautiful presentations, RUI makes it a point to ensure the packaging of their products are charming. The chocolate and cookies are all wrapped up in boxes and bags with colorful ribbons, indeed very suitable for gifts & treats.
