Koay Teow Th’ng, also commonly known as KTT is a popular hawker food for Penangites besides the overwhelmingly famous Char Koay Teow, Assam Laksa and Hokkien Mee. Lately I have been patronizing the Duck Meat Koay Teow Th’ng at Lum Lai located in Cecil Street Market Hawker Center, just beside the bustling Cecil Street Market. This street is also known as Chit Tiau Lor to Penangites which represent the 7th Road in that precinct.

Penang Food – Pork Innards Porridge

Posted by: CK Lam    in Chinese, Georgetown, Hawker, Penang, Porridge

The Chowrasta Market is lined with plenty of food stalls selling throughout the morning. There is one particular stall that sells tasty pork innards porridge. If you are a huge fan of chu chap jook which is considered a bizarre food to some people but a delicacy to others, do check out this stall that has been operating for many years.

Fancy having a bowl of piping hot seafood beehoon or pork porridge? I had my share over at Lam Kei located in Nam Thean coffee shop along the busy Jalan Jelutong. This stall has been around for thirty-five years with the second generation taking over now. They have another stall selling this similar food inside Kedai Kopi Leong Huat Seng in Sungai Tiram, near to the Penang Airport.

After shopping in Prangin Mall on a Sunday evening, we decided to have some hawker food in town. We went for some bak moi (pork porridge) at a roadside stall beside Ho Ping Coffee shop located in Penang Road/ Kampung Malabar junction. It operates from 5pm onwards.

You can choose from a varieties of pig innards – brain, kidney, intestines, liver and mince meatball as your ingredients. There are two types of vermicelli (bee hoon), the thick and the thin ones. Tang chai (dried preserved vegetable) are also added to the noodle for that extra taste.

No garlic oil and MSG is added. The food is always served to the customer steaming hot. Do go there earlier to avoid waiting as it can sometimes take up to an hour.
There is a very famous Lorbak stall in this coffee shop too. We usually go for the hae jie and the lorbak. Business starts from morning till night. There are also other stalls selling char koay teow, tai pan hor fun and mee goreng. Click here for the Map Location.
