For those with cravings for Texas grill dishes, do drop in to Swez Brasserie, located in Eastin Hotel, Penang. The brasserie is having its Texas Grill Promotion for the whole month of June 2012.

The young newly appointed junior sous chef, Kelvin Cheong whips up a selection of grill dishes cooked with a pleasant flavor of of herbs and spices). I had a preview taste of some of the dishes. The meal begins with the serving of warm Texas wild potato soup made with USA imported potatoes and herbs. The hearty soup with a delectable creaminess was simply satisfying.

My first post of 2009!

To start off the year, we decided to dine at a new eatery recommended by my friend Liang, called Blue Reef. This restaurant is located in the folds of Lebuh Lembah Permai, Tanjung Bungah, Penang. It serves up fish dishes alongside other western food. As the restaurant has just started a few weeks ago, they kept the menu “light and easy.”  Among the items available currently are the fish, chicken and pasta.

The deco is simple and neat with indoor and outdoor seating’s too. We had ours outdoor as it was a pretty chilling and cool night.

For lovers of Nasi Briyani, do drop by Restaurant Kapitan at Chulia Street as they serve, I feel, one of the best claypot Nasi Briyani in Penang. There are many varieties and we chose the Chicken Briyani (RM7.00) and the Beef Briyani (RM6.00). The rice flavored with many spices is serve in a claypot and comes with a light curry gravy.

The image above depicts the Claypot Chicken Briyani while the equally superb Beef Briyani is right below – both meats are tender and tastefully marinated while the portion is relatively satisfying.

There were plenty of ready cooked dishes. We chose a plate of pickles and mix vegetable to go with our meal.

Besides the hearty rice, we added a plate of Chicken Cheese Naan costing RM8.50 which comes with some onions, mint sauce, reddish sauce and coleslaw. I personally prefer the Naan that I had in Sri Ananda Bahwan in Tanjung Bunga.

We had a peek inside the open kitchen where they cooked the Naans and the tandoori chicken in the clay oven. The kitchen is filled with the aroma of the grilled chicken.

For drinks, we tried something different. We had the hot Badam Milk (Almond Milk). The pure cow milk is boiled with grinded almond, cashew nuts and raisins in a big kuali. Sugar is added for the sweetness.

Before it is being serve, the milk is “pulled” from one teacup to the other, just like the teh tarik.

The boiled raisins and cashew nuts adds flavor to this soothing and wholesome drink. This is the first time we had this drink and to our surprise, it turns out to be very pleasant indeed.

Just like most Mamak shop, it is open 24 hour and is located at 93, Chulia Street – a block away from the famed Bomba beef  koay teow stall. It has a separate dining area, with upstairs fully air-conditioned. A great place for Nasi Briyani and of course a cup of nutritious Badam Milk.

If you can’t make it downtown, drop by their branch in Gurney Tower (outside Gurney Hotel) and another one near Queensbay Mall.

The Sire Museum Restaurant in the financial district of Georgetown is open to the public recently after a soft opening. The restaurant is inside a building ideally situated in No.4, King Street which belongs to the Yeap Chor Ee family.

This building has been restored and beautifully refurbished and turned into a museum cum restaurant which serves delicious food.

We celebrated Father’s Day two days earlier at this beautiful restaurant.

The fine dining restaurant on the ground floor is managed by the same owner of Ferringhi Garden. We had a chat with their Executive chef, Mr Yeoh Woei Liang who also runs the kitchen in Ferringhi Garden. We learned that even though it is under the same management, the menu and the food has been developed differently for each restaurant respectively.

This is the view that greeted us when we stepped inside.

Moving further in; the second section of the dining hall which is simply breathtaking. The high ceiling and the white glass panel wall at the rear give us an impressive feeling. The whole hall was tastefully decorated with freshly cut flowers and well tended plants.

The complementary basket of garlic bread and the plate of salad was a pleasant start to our dinner.

To start off our dinner, each of us had a share of the Baked Cheese on Smoked Salmon sandwich.

I opted for the Baked Pan Sealed Red Snapper which is infused in olive oil with fragrance garlic and seasoned with salt & pepper. It was aromatic, light and fresh tasting.

My son’s plate of carbonara spaghetti with turkey ham and assorted mushroom and seafood, tasted superb. It was garnished with chopped herbs and grated cheese. With a tinge of spiciness, this dish tasted much better and different from the usual creamy carbonara spaghetti.

Hubby had the Lamb Shank braised in tomato concasse with mirepoix – which is a blend of Tuscan herbs. It is served with pistachio mint sauce. Hubby just love its tantalizing aroma.

As there was an opening promotion (read below), ice-cream and coffee was on the house. Nice!

The surroundings of the dining hall is brightly lit with potted plants hanging from the wall. What was more impressive was the dinning area which was restored and designed to give their customers a modern and contemporary atmosphere with a bit of the olden days charm. This mixture puts one into a sense of calmness and relaxing experience.

After the meal, we took a tour around the museum of the upper floor which is filled extensively with the family heirlooms, pictures and paintings. More can be view at this post, which is solely about this museum. Here is a peek on what’s in store.

Beautiful ambiance, soothing music and delicious food plus the friendliness of the staff makes The Sire an ideal venue for lunch, dinner or a snack. Our first visit at The Sire is definitely one to remember for us especially so when it is to celebrate Father’s Day.

This stylish restaurant is currently having a special opening food promotion from now till 21st June. Customers gets to enjoy free appetizer, dessert and coffee or tea for every main course.

Happy Father’s Day to all!

Hubby and myself had our lunch at Summer Garden Food Bistro in Vale of Tempe, Tanjung Bungah. Its right on the junction of Jalan Lembah Permai and the road leading to TAR College.

The garden is decorated with lots 0f green plants that creates a pleasantly outdoor environment.

The dining area inside is quite spacious and has a lot of decorative items.

It has an open kitchen right beside the counter.

The mains that we ordered were Duck Breast with Black Cherry Sauce for myself and Roasted Rack Of Lamb for hubby. The duck meat was firm and the cherry sauce compliment the meat. The greens were very fresh but we felt the portion was a bit small. The roast lamb was tender and served with brown sauce but hubby requested for some mint sauce instead. The food were very well presented.

After the food, we skip desserts but we did have a cup of coffee. The brown and white sugar were served in containers unlike most places that provide sugar sachets.

We were happy with the service, the food and relaxing environment. Do try out the cakes.

By the way, to call for service is just by pressing a button.
