Its been a while since I last visited the hawker center in Kompleks Makanan Padang Kota Lama (or more commonly known as Esplanade). This complex on the seafront promenade has many stalls offering Indian food, fresh seafood and Western food.
There are a few stalls offering pasembur and the most popular would be Hussain Pasembur.

A basic place of pasembur comes with thick cuts of cucumber strips, radish (mangkuang), blanched bean sprouts, crispy crackers, prawn fritters, bean curd and hard-boiled egg. The worker spoons several spoonfuls of warm orangey spicy and sweet peanut sauce over the salad, coating every part of it.

Chinese Recreation Club Restaurant (CRC) is located in the Chinese Recreation Club, and over the decades has remained as one of the best Chinese restaurants in Penang. This restaurant has a huge selection of mouth watering Cantonese and Teochew cuisines.

As usual, we were browsing and hunting through for a nice dinner, and somehow Hubby had a great idea of having some Lok Lok! Commonly on the island, we usually go to Padang Brown or the Pulau Tikus Market at night, however this time; hubby wants to try out the Lok Lok at Butterworth’s Chai Leng Park, Wai Sek Kai.
We made a trip over there and we chose New Corner Lok Lok as it is the first visible stall when you enter into this one way street. In the evening, this street is turned into a hawker food haven with stalls lining up from the beginning right till the end.

This time around, my food blog will introduce a special prawn fritter (hae jie). If you are on the look out for big prawns hae jie, I would like to recommend you this particular stall. You can find it at the road side hawker food stall at Johor Road, just off the Datuk Kramat Road (Padang) junction. The stall sells varieties of deep fried lorbak, tau kua, pig ears, sausages like any other lorbak stall in Penang but it stands out in its hae jie with fresh big prawns.
There are two ways of enjoying the hae jie; one way is the prawn fritters. The shells of the prawn are removed and fry in a coat of batter till golden brown. Each piece of fritter has one big prawn. The other way is having the fried hae jie with the prawn shell still intact. Both of the version are equally good.
