Its been a while since I last visited the hawker center in Kompleks Makanan Padang Kota Lama (or more commonly known as Esplanade). This complex on the seafront promenade has many stalls offering Indian food, fresh seafood and Western food.

There are a few stalls offering pasembur and the most popular would be Hussain Pasembur.

A basic place of pasembur comes with thick cuts of cucumber strips, radish (mangkuang), blanched bean sprouts, crispy crackers, prawn fritters, bean curd and hard-boiled egg. The worker spoons several spoonfuls of warm orangey spicy and sweet peanut sauce over the salad, coating every part of it.

Recently there have been a number of Korean Restaurants opening up in Penang with the latest, Sa Rang Chae (meaning guest house). A few of us food bloggers arrived on an evening at this restaurant at the invitation of the owner, Mr Kevin Kim. This Korean restaurant located in New Bob Center along Gottlieb Road is bright and accentuated by surrounding glass panels.

Opening its doors just a mere seven months ago, it boasts an ethnic ambiance with three private dining rooms.

We had some nourishing porridge for dinner last night at Sin Geylang. The shop on Macalister Road (opposite Red Rock Hotel) specializes in claypot porridge, serve with dishes for lunch and dinner. The texture of the porridge was smooth, quite thick and topped with chopped spring onions with a dash of oil.

Penang has a number of Korean BBQ restaurants and lately we saw the arrival of Daorae Korean BBQ Restaurant in our shores. The outlet opened in the middle of May, less than a month ago occupies two shoplots in Penang Bayan Point. Daorae operates by the motto ‘the customers is always right’, thus their main objective is to provide good services to their customers. We had a hearty meal there recently.

My first post for the New (Niu) Year 2009! Finally settled back into routine after days of eating & celebrating…

I’m sure the majority of you had a dining experience in Gurney Plaza, Penang, no matter if it was Nandos, Manhattan Fish Market, Food Loft or something else. However, if you are craving for Japanese food of a different kind compared to Sakae Sushi or Sushi King, perhaps you can head over to Kozue Japanese Restaurant that sits on the 3rd floor of this shopping complex. This new outlet, which is situated just beside Kim Gary HK Cafe, opened in December last year and has a nice water feature at the entrance.

The colourful menu shows a lot of variety ranging from tempura to sushi and udon and has the descriptions of all the dishes. With just the two of us, hubby and myself went for a light meal.
