The Food Surprise shows the moments when he gets thrown out, wakes up a restaurant manager from her late noon siesta, and gets in line, like everyone else, for a 20 minute wait for his food.

I had the opportunity to be his dining guide during the filming in Penang. It was a great time, seeing the happenings behind-the-scene.

The Food Surprise will also makes its debut on TLC (Starhub Channel 427) every Monday in Singapore at 10.30pm.

* Many thanks to Makansutra for laying on this invitation.

A lovely impression of Squid Ink Fettuccine!

During my Singapore trip, I got the chance to taste some mouthwatering pasta when Dr. Leslie Tay brought the few of us to his favorite Italian restaurant, Cugini which is known for serving authentic and delicious Italian food. Cugini is the Italian word for ‘cousins’, which refers to the two Italian owners, Chefs Gerri Sottile and Mauro Muroni.

Taking a break from all the food for once, and indulging in some of the best fruits Penang has to offer!

It is always a good time to visit Penang and especially now when the great durian season is on. Just imagine going on a makan trip in Penang to feast on the King of Fruits, Durian! Our family just loves the thorny spikes durian with its strong pungent aromatic flesh. There are numerous stalls in town. Recently I took my aunt and uncle who came for a visit from Singapore to try out the durian at one of the popular stall, Penang Ah Teik Durian Stall. This stall is located right beside the Sun Yat Sen building in Lorong Susu/Mccalister Road.

Bali Hai again??

Posted by: CK Lam    in Gurney Drive, Penang, Pork Free, Restaurant, Seafood

Bali Hai again?? That was the question my hubby asked when I told him I wanted to patronise this restaurant for dinner with our uncle from Singapore. We patronised Bali Hai Seafood Market at Gurney Drive with our parents just nine days ago.

We were there quite early and the tables were not fully occupied. We decided to try out other dishes besides the ones that we have tasted on our first visit.

The menu for the night include:
a) Boiled baby octopus – tu boh sui, with two types of chili sauce, a red and a green.

b) Steam prawns in Chinese wine.

c) Fried noodles -mee-tiau (photo shown in my earlier blog)

d) Teochew style steamed fish with preserved salted vegetable and tofu.

e) Black pepper crabs – very tasty dish especially with the sauce fried until dried.

A view of the large open kitchen of the restaurant.

Went to the wash basin after an appetizing meal and took this photo of the gargoyle guarding over the basin.
