Operating since 1974 and managed now by the third generation, the fruit stall sited under a big tree in front of Pejabat Kesihatan Daerah Seberang Perai Utara offers fresh cut fruits and vegetables on sticks. These refreshing fruit sticks are more commonly known as ‘batang rojak’ or ‘chiam-chiam’.

Just pick and choose from the 15 to 16 varieties of seasonal fruits and vegetables. The selection includes young mangoes, jambu air,  pineapples, guavas, star fruits, umbras, cuttle fish, hard boiled quail eggs and deep-fried fish balls. Vegetable lovers will appreciate the fresh choices of cherry tomatoes, cucumber, carrots and turnips. Pineapple and guava are the crowd pleasers and one particular favorite bite is the cuttle fish.

Vino Vino Bistro is the latest concept of wine bar to be launched in Penang. Incorporating a whisky bar as well as a coffee bar with a high tech twist, the outlet carries a wide and fine selection of wines in Penang. The cozy interior is lined with wine cabinet stacked with a variety of wines, Japanese sake and shochu.

Its drawing point is the Vino Tech dispensing system, whereby single malt whisky and premier wine are offered to customers by glass at the perfect temperature.

The slogan above was printed on the menu when we visited Ah’ Basri Satay outlet last night. That slogan had all of us ranting…what a way to attract customers. This outlet is located on Jalan Dato Ismail Hashim in Sungai Ara. It is diagonally opposite the Fisherman’s Grill.

This place has its own unique variations of satay. We had some time selecting the type of meat to have as there were many varieties to choose from. They have even horse and ostrich meat for the more adventurous to try out.

I remember visiting Vintage Bulgaria Restaurant and Bar for the first time when it opens its door last year in Tanjung Bungah. Recently my family was invited to savor selections of Bulgarian cuisines in their recently revamped menu. The restaurant now has an additional dining floor space and  is complete with wooden furniture, stone walls and great mural.

* Update – The place has closed down!

Recently, a few of the Penang Food Bloggers were invited to a food tasting & review of Miss Saigon, Penang. This trendy Vietnamese restaurant located at the prime area of E-Gate with bustling atmosphere faces the Jelutong Expressway with the view extending out to the Penang Bridge. It was an opportunity for us to discover some unique Vietnamese cuisine, and also having able to taste all the food in this restaurant’s recently revamped menu. The new menu, which is pork free has a total of thirty-one new items with varieties ranging from salad, rice noodles, sandwiches and summer rolls.

I would like to add in a word of compliments to the Management of Miss Saigon for their innovative and forward thinking. I have come to know that the restaurant previously did not receive a lot of positive comments. As a pro-active team management, they have constructively used the feedback from the  bloggers to improve their menu and the restaurant as a whole.
