Located in the Sunway township of Seberang Jaya, Abbey Road is a trendsetting Beatles-inspired bistro and restaurant. The restaurant concept of this family-owned outlet is derived from the restaurant’s owner Cheong Chee Seng love for The Beatles. The walls are adorned with posters of the group, and diners get to enjoy their music too.

Opened in April 2011, this restaurant which occupies the ground floor of a shop house, offers dining in a casual mode. The kitchen is managed by chef Samuel Cheong, who has worked in many overseas establishments and fine dining restaurants. The simple menu focuses on Western cuisine with modern plating.

Fancy some Hainanese cuisine in Penang? Chances are the choices are not aplenty as Hainanese cooks are few to come by and the younger generation is not keen on learning the trade.

But you can make your way to Yeng Keng Cafe & Bar in Yeng Keng Hotel, a heritage boutique hotel on Chulia Street at the heart of the UNESCO World Heritage City of George Town. In addition to Western cuisine, Yeng Keng Café & Bar came out with a selection of classic Hainanese dishes.

Check out Funky Monkey, the latest joint in Penang with the tagline, it’s all about good food, great value & a great place to gathered around. This outlet serving modern European cuisines is found in 127 Food Court along Burma Road. Do expect some interesting dishes with local flavors at this outlet concocted by the Chef Jeffrey, who learned the skill while working in various prominent hotels in Singapore.

The restaurant @The Sun  which was opened recently occupies the ground floor corner lot of the Sun Yat Sen Memorial Centre, Penang.  Although it is located in the busy Macalister Road,  the environment is relatively quiet. The decoration of the dining area is charming and inviting with importance given to the textures and colours.

While glancing through the menu, we were served with refreshing glass of welcome drink. The menu has a cool cover for each gender, one for the guys and another for the babes! As it it pretty new, the restaurant only offers  Western Cuisine set meals that is priced at RM28 nett. However, from the 24th November onwards, the restaurant will operate at full swing, which includes ala carte and set meals for lunch & dinner.

Many thanks to my best friend, KS, for introducing this new place to me.

***The restaurant has since closed down.

Neww BT Food Court was recently opened in Burma road, just next to the Wesley Methodist Church and stone’s throw away from Giant hypermarket. Inside the food court, there many stalls selling varieties of hawker food like hokkien mee, char koay teow, chicken rice, beef noodles, popiah, curry mee, dim sum, western food, economy rice, rojak and many more. Some of them operate in the day while others at night. Parking spaces are aplenty and it is free. Although being new, the ambience and the cleanliness is better compared to other outlets.

There are so many stalls for us to explore and we started off with the Western Cuisine which operates only in the night.

A plate of Grilled Black Pepper Chicken Chop – RM7 from the Western Cuisine stall. The chicken is perfectly grilled and laid on top of a bed of french fries. I am very impressed with the way they present the food even though it is in a food court.

I added in the sauce gradually as I do not fancy having the piece of chicken soaking in it. Observe the artistically decorated meal, really tastefully done. :D
