With the Year of the Monkey approaching, Eastern & Oriental Hotel in Penang is offering celebratory treats of Gong Xi Fa Chai Dinner Buffet and Chinese New Year Steamboat Buffet Dinner at Sarkies and Sarkies Corner.
From 7th February until 13th February 2016, diners can enjoy the Gong Xi Fa Chai Dinner Buffet at Sarkies. The buffet dinner accompanied by complimentary fruit punch is priced at RM133.30 nett per adult, and RM60.95 nett for children. To complement the food, you can add on RM66 nett for free flow of wines & beers.
Expect indulgence such as prosperity salmon yee sang, accompanied by fruity tossing sauce and condiments. The yee sang will be prepared individually for every table with minimum booking of six pax and above (request upon booking). Add-on offering of abalone is available too.
If you are fond of soup, the sea treasure seafood soup and individual steamed herbal soup are great choices. The former is flavorfully prepared with creamy texture and strong seafood flavors while the double steamed herbal soup is a comforting clear soup.
Enjoy festive dishes like steamed fish with Nyonya sauce, wok-fried prawns with oat and butter, E & O roasted duck, sauteed seasonal vegetable with two treasure mushroom, lotus rice with chicken meat and mushroom, and braised soya chicken with black mushroom. The latter whetted the appetite with its flavor infused with the black mushroom and all the spices used, giving the dish a full flavor.
For Chinese desserts, diners can look forward to red bean soup with glutinous rice ball and Chinese pancake.
For fans of steamboat, you will probably like to check out the Chinese New Year Steamboat Buffet Dinner. Priced at RM88 nett per adult and RM44 nett per child, this promotion with complimentary Chinese tea is available at Sarkies Corner from 7th February till 9th February.
The hotel’s communications and public relations manager Eileen Chong said places are limited to 80 pax per night.
The steamboat version comes with three type of broths – chicken, tom yam and Chinese herbal. The latter which incorporate many Chinese herbs is palate pleasing. For the tom yam soup, it is not as sour as a typical tom yam soup and the saltiness is on the light side. I would prefer it with an extra shake of salt.
There is an abundance of seafood, like crabs, prawns, salmon fillets, mussels, crab stick, scallops, bamboo clams, red snapper fillets and fish balls. The meat selection include beef, lamb and chicken.
There is the vegetable selection which include an assortment of long cabbage, nai pak, iceberg lettuce, Chinese spinach, siew pak choy, choy sum and tang hao. Other choices include deep-fried wanton, bean curd skin, sui kaw, Teochew fish dumpling, and assorted mushrooms. For noodles, you can have udon, koay teow, yellow noodle, beehoon and glass noodle.
The steamboat is served with light soya sauce, garlic oil, and coriander oyster garlic sauce along with spicy kick from sliced chili padi, red chilli, white radish spicy sauce and chilli sauce.
Sweet desserts displayed on the buffet table include festive cookies, Chinese tea chiffon cake, egg tart, semolina almond cake, mango pudding and red bean with glutinous rice ball soup.
The Chinese tea chiffon cake has soft and light texture and is refreshing topped with a piece of mandarin orange.
So, if you are looking for choices to dine this Chinese New Year, why not head over to the Sarkies and Sarkies Corner?
