G Hotel Gurney and G Hotel Kelawai in Penang will be ushering in the Year of the Boar with the specially procured eight-course Chinese New Year Set Dinners and Prosperity Chinese New Year Buffet Dinners. Both award-winning hotels promises a bountiful medley of festive delights for lunch and dinner throughout the lunar new year celebrations at their dining outlets, Taste Cafe and Spoon Cafe.
The wonderful team at G Hotel had prepared two eight-course reunion set menus, with a choice between the Prosperity Package (RM1688nett) or the Longevity Package (RM1888nett). The menus (for a table for 10 people) run from 26th January till 28 February 2019 in both hotels.
There is an additional promotion for diners on the eve of Chinese New Year! Diners will savor the reunion dinner at G Hotel Gurney’s Grand Ballroom, complete with live entertainment and a lucky draw session.

As per the norm for Chinese New Year course dinners, diners are off to a great start with the colorful Lucky Fresh Salmon Yee Sang. The traditional new year fare overflows with shredded vegetables, crunchy crackers, glistening fresh salmon and condiments of sesame oil and plum sauce, comes with layers of blissful flavors. The yee sang dish is available for takeaway too, at RM120nett.

Next up in the Longevity Set is the Braised Seafood Soup which comes in individual porcelain bowls. Prepared with dried scallop, fish maw, crab meat, mushrooms, and drizzled with black vinegar, the soup delivered satisfaction with each and every mouthful.

The next dish after the soup is Baked Whole Chicken in Spicy Pineapple Sauce, a meaty selection garnished with fresh pineapple cubes. The combination of natural sweetness of pineapple and curry spices proves a well-matched accompaniment to the tender slow baked chicken.

From the chicken dish, progress to the Deep-Fried King Prawns in Golden Salted Egg Yolk, a dish that is bound to become a favorite for those who love salted egg yolk. The king sized prawns stir-fried with salted egg yolk, margarine, and bird’s eyes chili arrived fragrant with curry leaves – a dish that earns high marks in both freshness and flavor.

Guests will be sure to enjoy the Sautéed Fresh Scallop in Yam Ring and Lotus Roots. Being a fried item, the outer part of the yam ring comes with light crispiness, and a smooth and creamy yam paste within.
The yam ring together with toppings of stir-fried fresh scallops, lotus roots, carrots, button mushroom, macadamia nuts, snap peas and vegetables with oyster sauce combine for a truly nice bite.

Feast for the lunar new year will always include a serving of fish as it symbolizes wealth. G Hotel’s version features the Steamed Pearl Garoupa in Supreme Soya Sauce. Special care is taken to the steaming of the fish; with tender smooth texture and all the natural sweetness locked within.

The Steamed Lotus Leaf Rice with Dried Oyster and Lotus Nuts is a rice dish flavored from the many ingredients of dried oysters, lotus nuts, black mushrooms, and dried shrimps. The rice is wrapped in lotus leaf which adds that extra layer of fragrance to the dish.
