Hotel Jen Penang by Shangri-La with the appointment of Mohd Afifi bin Abu Bakar as its new executive chef has the restaurant’s menu revamped and gotten better.
This November 2019 sees the Kuala Lumpur native rolling out two rotating buffet dinner menus with the theme “Sea & Grill” at the Halal-certified all-day dining Café Jen.

The spread featured a mix of cold and warm dishes. There is the chilled seafood on ice with crustacean selections of snow crab leg, tiger prawns, yabbies, crabs and slipper lobsters.

The chef has also selected some local kampung seafood and meat dishes, such as Sotong Sumbat Masak Lemak Cili Api, Slipper Lobster in Rendang Style, and Sotong Masak Piton. The spicy dishes go well with white rice and the assorted crunchy papadum and emping. For those who enjoy noodle soup, the bowl of Penang Assam Laksa with sweet, sour and spicy fish soup is a good choice to warm the soul and belly.
At the grill station, diners will be able to try out grilled fish (ikan pari & ikan bawal) wrapped in banana leaves with aromatic spices besides an array of satays. On the meat choices, there are the Barbequed Texas Beef Short Ribs, and Braised Lamb Shank Osso Buco. Savor the grilled meat in its natural simplicity along with a salad.
At the carving station, the Oven Roasted Whole Fish Provencal, Slow Roast BBQ US Spare Ribs, and Slow Roast Leg of Lamb in Perchik Style are worthy of a mention.
