DUAN 二杬 Malaysian Cuisine at Beach Street, Georgetown, Penang

DUAN 二杬 located in the bustling Beach Street in Georgetown, Penang is the place to experience the fusion of bold spices and rich traditions through Malaysian cuisine. Operated by the people from Ichi Tong 一桐, this outlet has a pork-free menu showcasing a fusion of traditional and contemporary Malaysian cuisine.

The restaurant in a casual setting adorned with unfinished concrete surfaces has an open kitchen that serves as a dividing line between the front and rear dining area. The upstairs space is perfect for hosting functions and events.

Our visit had us savoring a wide range of cooked spicy, sweet, and salty mix of Malaysian snacks and curry dishes. For snacks, we had the grilled beef satay and chicken satay. Both the skewers were marinated with a strong focus on spices. Grilled to a smoky charred perfection, the tender meat were eaten paired with their signature nutty peanut sauce.

For main dishes, there is an array of choices such as the Signature Curry Mutton, Fresh Curry Ikan, Rendang Curry Beef, and Rendang Curry Ayam. We were vowed by the aromatic curry mutton and curry ikan prepared with aromas of fresh herbs. Here the curry mutton is served with a piece of crispy hash brown (deep-fried julienned potatoes) and the crunchiness was a nice complement to the creamy curry.

Savour the dishes with either the Biryani Rice or Basmati Rice. Both comes with side dishes: crispy Papadom, tangy pickled Acar-Acar vegetables, egg (choice of fried or salty), sautéed veggies, and sambal sauce.

DUAN 二杬 has also launched its signature lunch curry rice set meal with choices like Rendang Curry Beef Rice, Curry Mutton Rice, Curry Seafood Rice, Rendang Curry Ayam Rice, Rempah Ikan Goreng Rice, and Crispy Ayam Goreng Rice. The sets available daily from 11am till 5pm are perfect for office-goers who are in a hurry back to work.
