Michelin Guide Kuala Lumpur and Penang 2023 – Penang Is A Michelin Star Studded Food City
Penang is officially a Michelin Star Studded Food City after the first edition of the Michelin Guide Kuala Lumpur & Penang revelation was done on 13th December 2022 at Berjaya Times Square Hotel. In the guide, Penang has a total of 46 food establishments, with two restaurants awarded with One MICHELIN Star, 17 Bib Gourmand, 27 Michelin Selected, and a Michelin Young Chef Award.
The Michelin guide book is published by the French tyre company MICHELIN since 1900. This reputable international food guide acknowledged establishments with outstanding culinary performance in related aspects.
To commemorate the achievement, the Penang state government and its tourism bureau – Penang Global Tourism hosted the PENANG IS MICHELIN-STAR GLAZED event. The appreciation and recognition night for the Michelin Star awardess was held on 10th January 2023 in Amari Spice Penang. Gracing the event was Chief Minister of Penang, YAB Tuan Chow Kon Yeow.
Also present was Penang State EXCO for Tourism and Creative Economy, YB Yeoh Soon Hin, Penang Global Tourism (PGT) chief executive officer Ooi Chok Yan, Association of Tourism Attractions Penang (ATAP) chairman Datuk Ch’ng Huck Theng along with distinguished guests.

The two restaurants which were awarded One MICHELIN Star are: Auntie Gaik Lean’s Old School Eatery, and Au Jardin. The former has a repertoire of Peranakan dishes while the latter takes pride in serving sophisticated European fare with subtle local twists.
